‘Accreditation’ Working Group Consultant Recruitment
Background
Following a workshop at the 2007 BIOA conference, it was decided to establish a working group to develop the concept of ‘Accreditation’ within the Association. This working group has now identified the need for a discrete piece of work to be carried out within a defined period of time, which requires the temporary appointment of a part-time consultant.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- A good understanding and appreciation of the complaint handling process and the skills and qualities needed by case workers
- Knowledge of professional training and accreditation
- Good consultancy skills, including research, report-writing and presentations
- Good interpersonal skills
Desirable
- Knowledge and experience of BIOA and/or of a BIOA member scheme
- Knowledge of education and qualifications environment
KEY TASKS
- Agree draft competencies with the Working Group and sample schemes
- Ensure quality and consistency of content and proficiency of suitable providers
- Work with suitable providers to develop pilot course(s), including content, criteria, delivery methods, course booking, and recording of successful attendance on courses
- Investigate ‘kite-marking’ by BIOA, or by use of an external agency
- Participate in ‘Accreditation’ events at the BIOA 2009 Conference (7 May)
ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES
- Solution for the whole BIOA constituency (the UK and the Republic of Ireland)
- Possible ‘kite-marking’ role for BIOA
- Confirmation of level of interest in scheme
- Exploration of current in-house provision
- Consideration of CPD aspect of scheme
- Provision of a scheme ensuring quality, consistency of content and proficiency with agreed providers.
APPOINTMENT TIMETABLE
- 5 September 2008 - Position advertised on BIOA website
- 26 September 2008 - Closing date for applications
- 1 October 2008 - Selection of shortlist for interview
- 14 October 2008 - Interviews for shortlisted applicants
(Appointment will be confirmed as soon as possible after the interviews, but in any event before 23 October)
KEY DATES
The successful candidate would be required to be available to attend key meetings on either 28 October or 12 November 2008 (yet to be decided), and on 7 May 2009.
FEES
It is anticipated that this work will take up to 20 days (the maximum available). The daily fee rate will be up to £500.00. Pre-agreed reasonable expenses for travel (supported by receipts) will be reimbursed in addition.
A contract for service will be agreed but key points to note are as follows:
- The individual appointed will report to the Chair of the ‘Accreditation’ Working Group;
- He/she will need to be responsible for income tax and NI contributions, and compliance with all relevant HMRC regulations.
- Consultant will usually work from own premises but may be required to travel for meetings (usually in London).
- For the avoidance of doubt, this position does not constitute employment and carries no employment protection rights, paid leave or pension provision.
